About the Film

Lemonade is an award-winning short documentary that illuminates the challenges and dedication involved in caring for an adult with Autism in the United Arab Emirates. Executive Produced by Dedra L. Stevenson and directed by Emirati filmmaker Sarah Al Hashimi, the film presents an intimate and deeply personal family story, offering understanding and a fresh perspective on life with Autism. Set against the backdrop of Sharjah and the UAE, Lemonade follows the everyday journey of Ibrahim — a young adult living with Autism — and the creative, compassionate approaches his family has embraced to support his growth and well-being. With limited resources and few services available for adults on the spectrum, the film highlights the challenges many families face, as well as the love, resilience, and ingenuity that transform difficulty into strength. The title Lemonade reflects the timeless metaphor of turning life's "lemons" into fresh, sweet possibilities — reminding audiences that even challenging circumstances can inspire compassion and action. Through its visual storytelling and authentic voice, the documentary invites viewers into a world often unseen.
