R.W. Harper

R.W. Harper is a writer who explores unexplained phenomena and supernatural encounters across North America, drawing on his background in biology and history. Growing up in a haunted house in rural Alabama and along the Gulf Coast, he developed an early interest in nature, local folklore, and unexplained phenomena. His service in the U.S. Navy exposed him to different cultures and perspectives. As a biologist, Harper specialized in the study of fish and ichthyology, focusing on the natural history of fishes and aquatic ecosystems. He studied biology, chemistry, geology, anthropology, folklore, and history, which helps him examine cryptid stories and folklore from multiple angles—considering natural environment, cultural context, and historical documentation. As a software developer for over thirty years, Harper has worked in web development and video game design, providing useful tools for organizing research and analyzing patterns. Harper's travels have taken him to various historical and archaeological sites—from Tiwanaku and Puma Punku in Bolivia to Mayan ruins in Mexico and Guatemala, and medieval locations across Europe. He approaches cryptid stories and folklore with curiosity and respect for their cultural significance, balancing scientific observation with understanding why these stories matter to communities. Currently based in Raleigh, North Carolina, Harper conducts paranormal and supernatural research out of personal interest and is a member of MUFON (Mutual UFO Network). North Carolina's rich history of UFO activity provides an ideal location for his research interests. Through his books and articles, he shares fascinating stories about cryptids and folklore while exploring what these tales reveal about human culture and our relationship with the natural world. **About the Author Names:** Harper publishes under two names: "R.W. Harper" for newer creative works and fiction, and "Rodney W. Harper" for non-fiction, academic papers, older podcast content, and video game credits. Moving forward, R.W. Harper will be the primary name for new creative projects, while Rodney W. Harper will continue to be used for academic, non-fiction, and video game industry publications.
